Citizens for Transparency and Accountability has called on Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Member of Parliament for North Tongu, to provide evidence supporting his claim that Rock City Hotel made losses in 2023.
This demand, according to the group, comes after the North Tongu MP claimed that he intercepted a document from the Ghana Revenue Authority indicating that Rock City suffered losses.
However, a document obtained from Rock City suggests that Mr. Ablakwa’s claims are false and intended to mislead and misinform the public.
Meanwhile, Dr. Bryan Acheampong, Minister of Food and Agriculture, has vehemently denied claims made by Okudzeto Ablakwa, the lead organiser of the “hands off our hotels” demonstration, on this issue, and has requested documents from the revenue authority.
The group on the other hand demands evidence from Mr.Ablakwa to back his claims within 24 hours.
“As concerned citizens who value truth and integrity, we hereby give Hon. Okudzeto Ablakwa 24 hours to publicly present the documents supporting his allegations. It is imperative that we do not allow baseless accusations to tarnish the reputations of hardworking individuals and businesses that are contributing positively to the development of Ghana”, an excerpt of the release read.
The group also emphasised the importance of backing up claims with verifiable evidence in order to avoid misleading and misrepresenting information to citizens.
“We must hold ourselves to the highest standards of accountability and transparency, ensuring that any claims made in the public domain are backed by verifiable evidence”, the release stated.
