President John Dramani Mahama has provided clarity on the proposed Hajj Village, presently under construction, highlighting its dual purpose: catering to pilgrims en route to Mecca and serving as a transit hub for all passengers traversing Kotoka International Airport.
This announcement seeks to alleviate concerns regarding the project’s relevance amidst economic constraints.
President Mahama underscored the facility’s commitment to providing indispensable amenities for travelers, thereby enhancing their airport experience. This initiative aligns with the government’s overarching objective of promoting fairness in national policies and ensuring equal opportunities for citizens to fulfill their spiritual obligations, irrespective of financial means.
“For years, Ghanaian pilgrims have endured arduous accommodation conditions and physical hardships prior to embarking on their sacred journey,” President Mahama observed.
“Under the Reset Agenda, the Ghana Airport Company is constructing a transit terminal that will serve as a Hajj Village during the Hajj period and a comfortable transit center for departures.
Following the Hajj period, the transit facility will be available to all passengers in transit through Kotoka International Airport.”
The President’s clarification comes amidst criticism regarding the project’s exclusivity and timing. Nonetheless, he reaffirmed that the Hajj Village is designed to benefit not only pilgrims but also the broader traveling public, ensuring a more convenient and comfortable airport experience for all.
