An aspiring National Chairman for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), David Kankam Boadu, has issued a stark warning to the party, asserting that its current state of division could spell disaster for its prospects in the 2028 elections.
The founding member of the NPP believes the internal rifts have become so personal and pervasive that they threaten to derail the party’s future.
In a candid interview on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM’s Frontline, he expressed deep concern over the animosity among members. “The rift in the party has become so personal that some people have a deep-seated hatred for each other,” he said. “People are already fighting seriously. How do you even talk about winning power when the conflict has seeped into people’s very bones? That is the hurdle we must overcome.”
According to Kankam Boadu, rescuing the NPP from this path of self-destruction requires a leader with an impeccable reputation. “At this point, we need someone who is unblemished as chairman. I have no skeletons in my closet. I have a proven track record. I am a founding father, a unifier, not a divider. I am a trouble-free character, and that is the kind of leadership we need to manage the NPP.”
He cautioned that the party risks following the path of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), which has faded into political irrelevance.
The politician pointed to the NPP’s loss in the Akwatia by-election as a clear example of how internal disunity leads to defeat.
He believes the party’s failure to come together allowed the then-ruling NDC to seize the seat.
David Kankam Boadu emphasised that his primary mission is to unify the NPP, as he believes the party cannot succeed without a cohesive front. He called on all other aspiring candidates to undergo a rigorous test of integrity and credibility.
“I am the only person who is unblemished and has a clean image,” he stated. “I have personally received information about other aspiring candidates who have been tagged as troublesome and lacking integrity. But I am the only one without any stain, and that alone makes it the most logical choice to elect me as the party’s national chairman.”
