Residents of Maamobi in the Ayawaso East Municipality in the Greater Accra region are exposed to an eminent outbreak of malaria and cholera as the rainy season is due.
This is because the residents of Maamobi, particularly those close to the abandoned Maamobi-Nima drain project use the drain as their dumping site. Not only have the residents tend the abandoned project site to their dumping site but also openly defecate there.
The Republic Press has observed that most of the residents in the area dump their refuse at the abandoned Maamobi-Nima drain project in an attempt to fill the manhole left at the site by the contractor.
The situation has left some concerned residents worried as they fear there might be a possible outbreak of cholera and malaria in the rainy season.
More so, some of the residents openly defecate in the abandoned project site in the night. Some also defecate in black polythene bags and dump it at the site.
