The Minister for Health, Hon. Kwaku Agyeman-Manu has paid a working visit to the Princess Marie Louise Hospital, also known as the Children’s Hospital in Accra.

This is his first official visit to any health facility after his nomination by the President and subsequently confirmed by Parliament. The Health Minister and his delegation were welcomed to the facility by Dr Mame Yaa A. Nyarko, the Medical Director in charge.

Interacting with staff, Hon. Agyeman-Man said, his office received complaints from staff, residents of the area and patients of the facility about the state of the buildings, some of which were constructed nearly a century ago.

His visit, according to the Health Minister, was driven by issues about the structural integrity of the hospital’s buildings and staffing and want to have first-hand information on the facility.

“I came to see for myself the structure or the state of the facility, what is to be rectified, and how we (Ministry) should facilitate for you to provide service efficiently”. The Health Minister said

The Director-General of the Ghana Health Service, Dr Patrick Kuma-Aboagye said GHS technicians carried out some preliminary structural integrity assessment of the building and had submitted a report.

The Medical Director of the facility, Dr Mame Yaa A. Nyarko, said the hospital had challenges with staffing two years ago, which resulted in very long waiting hours.

According to her, the Ministry and the Director-General’s office investigated the cause of the problem, and some medical professionals posted to the facility which has helped to reduce the waiting time.
