A torrential downpour, accompanied by fierce storm, have ripped off the roof of the Dormaa Ahenkro Presbyterian Junior High School’s venerable block. This block once housed three distinct classes—Form 1 ‘A’, Form 1 ‘B’, and Form 2 ‘A’—along with the assistant headmaster’s office.
Consequently, the faculty and school administration have been compelled to consolidate and relocate Form 3 ‘A’ and ‘B’, comprising over sixty students, to the school’s ICT laboratory. Form 2 ‘A’ has been moved to the staff common room, while Form 1 ‘A’ and ‘B’ have been merged and transferred to the classroom previously occupied by Form 3 ‘B’.
In a conversation with Rev. Seth Adu, the Headmaster of the School and the Minister In-charge, Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Grace Congregation-Dormaa Ahenkro, he expressed that the calamitous event has posed significant challenges for the institution.
Steps have been undertaken, including filing official reports with pertinent authorities, such as the local manager, who serves as the head pastor of the Presbyterian Church in Dormaa, the circuit supervisor, the Municipal Chief Executive, the education director, and other stakeholders.
He emphasized the anticipation of favorable responses from these stakeholders and authorities to facilitate the reroofing of the edifice, thereby enabling the reassignment of students to their respective classrooms and enhancing the educational process.
The Headmaster underscored that the issue has somewhat hindered the efficacy of teaching and learning due to the overcrowding and heat within the classrooms allocated to the impacted students, while others are relegated to the staff Common Room, which lacks adequate equipment to bolster instruction. He urgently appealed for assistance in repairing the roofing of the affected classrooms to promote effective teaching and learning.
Several of the affected students recounted their plight to GIFTs News, appealing to philanthropists, stakeholders, and other relevant entities to assist in the reroofing of their classrooms. They highlighted that the overcrowding and excessive heat within their current learning environment hinder their academic pursuits.
