The High Court in Accra has rejected a bail application submitted on behalf of Oliver Barker-Vormawor, who is being held along with others on charges including unlawful assembly.
The Court noted that Barker-Vormawor is already facing trial in another court where he is out on bail.
However, the ruling clarified that the issue is not whether he will appear for trial, but rather the risk of him potentially committing another offense while awaiting trial.
The Court directed the Circuit Court to commence Barker-Vormawor’s trial within 78 hours, warning that failure to do so could lead to a reconsideration of bail.
In a separate ruling, Felicity Nelson, another accused in the case, was granted bail.
She was released on bail set at GH₵20,000 with two sureties, and the Court instructed the prosecution to verify her residence.
