The Government of Ghana, in collaboration with the Ho Municipal Assembly and the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, has cut sod for several key development projects across the Ho Municipality in the Volta Region.

Funded through the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF), the projects are aimed at improving access to quality education, healthcare, and potable water. They include the construction of classroom blocks, nurses’ quarters, CHPS compounds, and the drilling and mechanization of boreholes across the municipality.

Specifically, the education infrastructure projects involve the construction of three-unit classroom blocks with ancillary facilities at Hodzo Alavanyo and Kpenoe, as well as a six-unit classroom block with ancillary facilities at Nyive. These interventions are expected to ease congestion in schools and create a more conducive teaching and learning environment for both pupils and teachers.

In the health sector, two-unit nurses’ quarters will be constructed at Matse and Tokokoe to improve staff accommodation and enhance effective healthcare delivery. Additionally, CHPS compounds will be constructed at Takla Atiyinu and Ziavi Bamefedo to bring primary healthcare services closer to residents.

To address challenges associated with access to clean drinking water, the project also includes the drilling and mechanization of thirty (30) boreholes across the Ho Municipality.

Delivering his welcome address, the Paramount Chief of Kpenoe, Togbe Kotoku XI, applauded the MP for the Ho Constituency, the MCE, and the NDC government for cutting sod for the projects, particularly the school in Kpenoe.

According to Togbe Kotoku, this is the first time a sitting government has cut sod for a school in their community. He noted that the only school in Kpenoe was established in 1880 by the EP Church and can no longer accommodate the increasing number of students. He welcomed the initiative, saying it has come at the right time.

Togbe Kotoku also appealed to the MP and MCE to upgrade the three-unit classroom block into a storey building to accommodate more students.

Speaking in an interview with Adom News, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Ho, Stephen Adom, explained that the projects form part of the government’s broader agenda to improve living standards and promote balanced development within the municipality. He noted that investment in education, health, and water remains a top priority, as these sectors are critical to human development.

The Member of Parliament (MP) for the Ho Constituency, Edem Kofi Kpotosu, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to fulfilling its promises to the people. He assured residents that the projects would be closely monitored to ensure timely completion and value for money.

Edem Kofi Kpotosu also assured the chiefs and elders of Kpenoe that their request would be fulfilled and instructed the contractor to upgrade the initial plan into a storey building.

Some residents and beneficiaries who spoke during the sod-cutting ceremony expressed appreciation to the MCE, the MP, and the NDC government for the interventions. They described the projects as timely and impactful, noting that they would significantly improve education, healthcare, and water access in their communities.

The sod-cutting ceremony marks a major step towards accelerating development in the Ho Municipality and underscores the government’s commitment to grassroots development.
