TotalEnergies African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2022 hosts Algeria have had a perfect start to life in the tournament with a win against group A opponent Libya in their opening match on Friday.

Playing in front of the cheering home crowd, Algeria was in control in the first half of the game, having 64% of possession, registering seven attempts at goal with one on target.

After all the failed attempts in the first half to get the first goal, Algeria returned in the second half with putting a lot of pressure again on Libya in the early minutes of the second half.

However, Libya grew into the game, launching series of runs at the Algerian goal.

Referee Tom Abongile awarded a penalty to the home team after their player was brought down in the 18-yard box.

Mahious scored the only goal in the match through the penalty spot, by simply sending Allafi the wrong way, slotting the ball into the left corner of the post.

Algeria are now top of the group A table, while Libya sit at the bottom with no point.

Ethiopia and Mozambique will face each other in the second group A match on Saturday afternoon.
