A 38-year-old hermaphrodite, identified as Pussy Mama, of Nigerian descent, has been remanded by the Kasoa Ofaakor Circuit Court for allegedly trafficking over 300 young girls and boys from Nigeria to Ghana, Mali, and other countries for prostitution.
Mama appeared before the Ofaakor Circuit Court presided over by His lordship Isaac Oheneba Kuffour on yesterday and is expected to reappear on October 18, 2024.
Mama has been on the Nigeria and Ghana Police wanted list for the past ten years for human trafficking.
The arrest proved challenging due to the alleged use of “juju” and the suspect disappear immediately his body touches a wall
However, Pussy Mama was apprehended by a young female police officer on October 7, 2024, at her residence while trafficking another set of young girls aged 13-17 to Ghana.
During the investigation, it was revealed that a young girls who had been trafficked by the suspect, identified as Mama, was found in her custody but currently rescued by the Police and are receiving treatment as they were messlessly beating by her.
This girl had been held since April this year and reported to police that Mama had a shrine in her home, which she purportedly used for ritualistic purposes to exert control over her victims.
The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) initiated contact with Mama under the guise of a potential client interested in her trafficking services.
Initially, Mama attempted to extort money from the undercover officer, believing they were friends.
The CID, posing as a buyer, continued to communicate with Mama, who eventually expressed a willingness to meet.
Upon arriving at Mama’s residence, the undercover officer was warned that no one was allowed inside with a mobile phone.
However, the officer managed to conceal their device.
As the interaction progressed, the undercover officer signaled for assistance from nearby colleagues.
Sensing that something was amiss, Pussy Mama attempted to flee but was apprehended.
In a desperate attempt to escape the situation, Mama’s ccomplices allegedly offered bribes ranging from GHC 10,000 to GHC 30,000 to the police.
To ensure the safety of the operation, she was swiftly transferred to an undisclosed police station for protection against any potential retaliation.
The police are continuing their investigation into Pussy Mama’s extensive trafficking network, with ongoing efforts to rescue other potential victims.
This case highlights the ongoing issue of human trafficking in Ghana. Previously, a 41-year-old Nigerian woman, Blessing Favour, was sentenced to five years in prison for human trafficking and forced prostitution.
Another Nigerian, Jennifer Chizoba Jeremiah, received a similar sentence for child trafficking.
These cases demonstrate the Ghanaian courts’ commitment to combating human trafficking.
The investigation into Mama’s activities is ongoing.
