The Greater Accra Regional Coordinating Council and the Accra Metropolitan Assembly have carried out a massive demolishing exercise that has seen over hundreds of illegal structures pulled down at Odawna, Accra Central, Rawlings Park and its environs.
The exercise which was led by the Greater Accra Regional Minister, Henry Quartey and a team of over 600 security officers had scores of residents gathered around the scene as the excavator did its job.
The reason for the demolishing exercise according to the Greater Accra regional minister is to clear the illegal structures along the major drains in Accra to limit flooding in the area as most of the structures are planted in water ways.
There were also some officials from the Forestry Commission (FC) who were present to provide assistance on how the beauty of the area could be re-ignited.
The decongestion exercise began at the Obetsebi Lamptey roundabout through to the Graphic road.
