President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has expressed his fascination at the startling growth of the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) and the numerous development projects currently being undertaken by the institution.

The President who could not hide his admiration for the Professional University when he visited the campus for the fourth time in a little over four years said: “I’m happy to be back at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), and to say, at the outset, how impressed I have been with the growth of this University in recent times.

“Your contribution to the development of the nation’s human capital is exceptionally worthy of commendation.”

The President made the comments at the opening ceremony of the 22nd Academy of African Business and Development (AABD) Conference where he was the special guest of honour.

The 22nd AABD Conference was staged at UPSA under the theme: “Sustainable Development beyond Aid: The focus for Africa?”.

Affirming the president’s observations, the Minister of Education, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum commended the Management of the University, led by the Vice-Chancellor Abednego F. O. Amartey, for their sterling leadership and innovation in higher education delivery.

He said the successes chalked by the UPSA should propel other public institutions to attain higher heights.

“It’s an honour to be at UPSA,” Dr. Adutwum said. “I think UPSA has demonstrated to the country and to the world that if you are innovative and focused and determined, you can do more with less. If you come to the campus and you see the developments going on, it makes you wonder what is going on in other places.

“If you look at the topic or the theme for this conference, ‘sustainable development beyond aid,’ no University could have qualified to host this [AABD conference] than UPSA, led by [Prof. Amartey] the famous edupreneur. Somebody who is innovating in the education space.”
