Deputy Minister-designate for Food and Agriculture, John Dumelo, has categorically denied being a member of any secret society within the Catholic Church.
Appearing before the Appointments Committee during his vetting on Tuesday, Dumelo emphasized his strong Catholic faith, reaffirming his devotion to the rosary, which he carried with him during the session.
When questioned by Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin about his potential ties to any Catholic fraternity or secret society, Dumelo dismissed the claims outright.
“I don’t belong to any society in the Catholic Church,” he stated firmly.
While acknowledging the existence of various Catholic organizations, including the Knights and Ladies of Marshall and the Knights and Ladies of St. John, Dumelo maintained that he has no involvement in their activities.
“I am familiar with them but not familiar with their dealings,” he added.
Dumelo’s remarks come amid growing scrutiny over the affiliations of public officials, particularly regarding religious and fraternal organizations. His firm denial seeks to put to rest any speculation about his associations within the Catholic Church.
