Luiz Suarez has defended his decision to handle the ball that denied Ghana the opportunity to advance to the semi-final of the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
Ghana was placed in Group H with Uruguay, South Korea and Portugal in this year’s World Cup in Qatar, with the Black Stars in line to play Uruguay in their last round of matches on Friday.
The Black Stars lost to Uruguay after Luiz Suarez deliberately stopped a goal-bound ball with his two hands during the quarter-final.
When questioned about it and informed that some people view him as “the devil himself” at their pre-match press conference, he said “The first time, I don’t apologise about that. I take the handball – but the Ghana player misses a penalty, not me. Maybe I apologise if I injure a player but, in this situation, I take a red card, the ref says penalty, it’s not my fault,”
The match will be a fiercely contested one, with Ghana second on the table with two points ahead of Uruguay who is last on the table with only one point.
