Former President John Dramani Mahama, flag bearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has extended congratulations to Keir Starmer, the newly-elected Prime Minister of the United Kingdom (UK), on his landslide victory in the British elections.
In a post on his social media platform, Mahama expressed his admiration for the UK’s democratic process, stating, “Congratulations to @Keir_Starmer and @UKLabour on their landslide victory in the British elections. The people have spoken…”
Mahama also expressed his hopes for a strong partnership between the UK and Ghana, saying, “I look forward to a strong partnership between our two countries.”
In a nod to Ghana’s upcoming elections, Mahama added, “Like the UK, Ghana will also have elections soon, and I hope for a positive outcome for my party and our continued good relations with Labour.”
The UK elections saw Keir Starmer’s Labour Party secure a decisive victory, winning a majority of seats in Parliament. The outcome is seen as a significant shift in the UK’s political landscape.
Mahama’s congratulatory message highlights the strong ties between the NDC and the UK’s Labour Party, and his hopes for a similar victory for the NDC in Ghana’s upcoming elections.
The development comes as Ghana prepares for its presidential and parliamentary elections in December 2024.
