Former General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, has revealed that there was a physical attack on him at the party’s headquarters when he was the general Secretary for the party.

He disclosed this when Speaking on Class FM on Monday, 12 September 2022, Mr Agyepong said “It was never true that I  changed the security guard at the party’s headquarters, I had just returned from a trip from the UK and I was going to the party’s headquarters and I got a call from the Nima Police station that there’s confusion at the headquarters and I go there and I wasn’t even allowed entry, but later I found my way to enter and some of the party elders were there when people were physically attacking me but they said nothing”.

According to him the impression that was created in the minds of the party people that he was against candidate Akufo Addo was because he supported Alan Kyerematen in 2010 and so when he became general Secretary in 2014 there was a feeling that he was part of an agenda to supplant Alan Kyerematen, not Akufo Addo which wasn’t true.

“I love this party, I’ve always given to this party, we helped built this structure with our hands, and we will not destroy it.” He said

He further stated that he was not paid a penny during his era as General Secretary of the NPP, but he has rather invested time and resources to promote and support the NPP because of his love for the party.

He disclosed that he  lived in his residence, he was not compensated for it and general secretaries have terms of conditions of service, he pointed out, noting: “My predecessor [Sir John], we had a room for him; in fact, the party bought a house in East Legon for him and he continued to stay there even when I was General Secretary and I continued to live in my residence,” he said
