Former Member of Parliament fo Agona West and ex-Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Madam Cynthia Mamle Morrison, has broken her silence over the deep divisions that led to her fallout with the New Patriotic Party (NPP) ahead of the December 2024 elections.

In a heartfelt revelation, Morrison shared that she felt bullied and sidelined by party insiders, following what she described as a lack of transparency in the party’s internal selection processes.

“I took the decision to contest as an independent candidate because of how I was bullied,” Morrison told Joy News.

“They hooted at me and used concocted stories to remove me from the seat.” She added

Having served the Agona West Constituency under the NPP banner since 2016, Morrison lost her bid for a third term during the party’s 2024 primaries. She garnered just 152 votes, falling behind Christopher Arthur who won with 240 votes.

Following her defeat, Morrison chose to run as independent candidate; a move that ultimately led to her expulsion from the party.

The NPP’s Agona West Constituency Chairman, Alhaji Gibrine Tanko, confirmed in a statement dated December 16, 2024, that Morrison had been removed from the party for breaching its constitution by running as an independent.

The decision, according to the statement, was unanimously endorsed by the Expanded Constituency Executive Committee during a meeting held a day prior.

Morrison also revealed that her support for Kennedy Agyapong during the party’s presidential primaries further strained her relationship with key NPP figures.

“Kennedy Agyapong is one of the pillars in the Central Region. I supported him, and that was why some party executives were against me,” she said.

“Some NPP MPs tried to bully me over my support for the Ken-must-go campaign.”

Despite the turbulence, Morrison maintains she bears no ill will towards the NPP and hopes the party regains power in the future.

“Dr. Bawumia is my friend. I go to his house; he visits me too,” she noted. “It is my prayer that my party [NPP] will come to power in 2028.”
