Former Black Stars midfielder Kevin-Prince Boateng has spoken out about the circumstances that led to his dismissal from the national team’s camp in Brazil in 2014 by the Ghana Football Association (GFA).
In 2014, in Brazil, both Kevin-Boateng and Sulley Muntari were locked up in a controversy, which saw them leave the team’s camp before Ghana’s last group game against Portugal.
In an interview with Five, he claimed that he was kicked out of the camp after confronting FA officials in a meeting and complaining about how he thought players were not being treated fairly.
“I got kicked out of from the national team because I spoke with the President about payment and organization. We had a meeting and I criticized them and I said they can’t treat us [players] like that because we know how much money they make, and they should invest in the organization and give the players the money they deserve. So didn’t like that and they kicked me out,” he said.
He continued by saying “They put a letter under my door at 6 am on the day we play Portugal. They said to me, leave the hotel in 15 minutes and give your card back and everything.”
Asked whether other players spoke up, he replied “No one”, adding that he was not fighting for himself but for everyone.
“I was even fighting for the team you know, and not myself. I saw them while going out with my luggage and it was the worst moment,” he added.
“I said to [Muntari] the real team will say ‘We are all not playing.”
Boateng however, added that he has a good relationship with the Ghana FA, though such issues came up.
