The Institute of Coastal Climate Change Environmental Protection-Ghana (ICCCEP-GHANA) has called for urgent and collective efforts to fast-track the transition to clean energy.
The organization emphasizes that moving toward renewable energy sources is essential to combat the worsening effects of climate change, ensure equitable energy access, and promote sustainable development in Ghana and beyond.
In a statement signed by its Executive Director, Emmanuel Gameli Dovia, ICCCEP-GHANA acknowledged the strides made in Ghana’s clean energy sector. However, the group highlighted that significant challenges remain and urged the government, clean energy experts, and private stakeholders to work collaboratively to overcome them.
“We call on the government, particularly the Ministry of Energy and Green Transition and the Ministry of Climate Change, to take bold steps in accelerating the adoption of clean energy solutions such as solar, wind, and hydropower,” the statement read.
The organization also outlined a roadmap for action, urging policymakers and private sector players to focus on the following:
Increased Investments in Renewable Energy Technologies: ICCCEP-GHANA appealed to both governments and private entities to boost funding for renewable energy projects to scale up solar, wind, and hydroelectric power solutions.
Policy and Regulatory Frameworks: The group emphasized the need for policies and regulations that enable the swift deployment of clean energy technologies, removing barriers that hinder adoption.
Improved Energy Access and Affordability: The statement reiterated the importance of ensuring that renewable energy is not only widely available but also affordable for all citizens, particularly in underserved communities.
As part of its mission, ICCCEP-GHANA reaffirmed its dedication to advocating for clean energy adoption and supporting efforts to create innovative solutions to Ghana’s energy challenges.
“On this International Clean Energy Day, we renew our commitment to promoting clean energy development in Ghana. We urge all stakeholders to join us in building a sustainable energy future that benefits all Ghanaians,” Dovia stated.
The call comes amid growing global recognition of the need to address climate change through renewable energy solutions. With Ghana’s abundant natural resources and increasing interest in green technologies, ICCCEP-GHANA hopes the nation can position itself as a leader in clean energy development across the region.
