The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr. Christian Tetteh Yohuno, together with members of the Police Management Board (POMAB), has held a stakeholder engagement ahead of the upcoming Akwatia By-Election to deliberate on security arrangements to ensure peace, law, and order before, during, and after the polls.
The meeting, held on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, created a platform for the Ghana Police Service to present its security plan for the election to political parties and to hear their concerns.
Representatives of the political parties expressed appreciation for the initiative and called for fairness and transparency in security deployment in order to build trust and confidence in the electoral process.
Earlier on August 12, 2025, the IGP and his team met with the Electoral Commission (EC) to discuss the broader roadmap for the by-election.
The discussions focused on coordination between the Police Service and the EC to ensure smooth operations throughout the electoral period.
The EC, on its part, outlined its operational strategy for the conduct of the poll.
In a related development, on August 13, 2025, the Police Service engaged the Institute of Democratic Governance (IDEG) at the National Police Headquarters.
At that meeting, IDEG raised issues relating to electoral security, transparency, and the role of key stakeholders in sustaining public confidence in the process.
The Ghana Police Service has assured the public that it will continue to hold consultations with stakeholders as part of ongoing preparations to guarantee security, law, and order in the run-up to the Akwatia By-Election.
