The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mr. Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has led a high-powered delegation of senior officers from the Ghana Police Service (GPS) to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) New York Field Office — marking the first-ever official engagement between the leadership of the Ghana Police Service and senior executives of the FBI in the United States.
The historic visit forms part of a broader U.S. engagement aimed at deepening operational partnerships and sharing best practices between the Ghana Police Service and leading American law enforcement agencies.
The initiative reflects Ghana’s increasing commitment to transnational security collaboration and intelligence-led policing.
During the meeting with Assistant Director-in-Charge of the FBI New York Office, Mr. Christopher Raia, and his leadership team, discussions focused on strengthening joint efforts to tackle mutual U.S.–Ghana security priorities.
These include cyber-enabled fraud investigations, intelligence sharing, counterterrorism operations, and the adoption of modern technology to detect, disrupt, and prevent crime.
Mr. Yohuno emphasized the Ghana Police Service’s ongoing reforms toward modernization and professionalism in policing, highlighting that international partnerships remain vital to achieving these goals.
“Partnerships like this reaffirm our shared responsibility to protect our people,” he stated.
“The Ghana Police Service is committed to adopting advanced investigative tools and intelligence collaboration to prevent crime and ensure the safety and trust of our citizens.”
Assistant Director Christopher Raia praised the growing cooperation between the two institutions, citing recent successes in joint operations.
He referenced the FBI’s collaboration with Ghanaian authorities in the extradition of cyber fraud suspects to the Southern District of New York as a model of effective partnership.
“Global partnerships such as the one between the FBI and the Ghana Police Service ensure that transnational criminals are held accountable. These results are only possible through sustained international cooperation,” he said.
The visit further reinforces both agencies’ shared commitment to information exchange, capacity building, and coordinated enforcement actions to combat the evolving threats of organized and cyber-related crimes that impact both nations.
