The seven-member Ad hoc committee probing the leaked tape purporting to remove the IGP from office will resume sitting today Monday, October 2, 2023.
The committee chaired by Samuel Atta Akyea after its last sitting on Wednesday, September 13, 2023, said the resumption of sitting will be continuous from Monday to Friday and will allow witnesses to tender in evidence for cross-examination.
Before the committee suspended sitting Mr. Atta Akyea revealed that a second tape believed to be an extended version of the leaked one was tended in by Chief Bugri Naabu.
So far Chief Bugri Naabu, COP George Alex Mensah, Superintendent Asare, Inspector Gyebi and IGP Dampare have all appeared before the committee.
On Tuesday, July 11, 2023, an audio recording, allegedly involving a police commissioner and a politician discussing a plot to remove IGP Dampare from office leaked.
The Minority Caucus in Parliament called for a probe into the leaked tape, based on that Mr. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, the Speaker of Parliament, on July 25, constituted a seven-member bi-partisan Committee to probe it.
According to the audio the plotters perceive Dampare as a potential obstacle to the NPP’s success in the 2024 elections.
