The chairman of the seven-member ad hoc committee, Samuel Atta AKyea, has indicated that the committee has suspended its sitting concerning the leaked tape purporting to remove the IGP from office.
“The committee will resume an in-camera hearing on Monday, October 2 through to Friday, October 6, 2023”, This was communicated by the Chairman when he addressed the media after it had an in-camera sitting with the witness on Wednesday, September 13, 2023.
Mr. Atta Akyea emphasised that witnesses, when hearing resumes, will be asked to tender evidence for a cross-examination exercise.
During his address, Mr. Atta Akyea noted that the second tape, believed to be the extended version of the leaked tape, was tended in by Chief Daniel Bugri Naabu.
On Wednesday, the National Security Minister, Albert Kan Dapaah, was the newest witness to be invited to appear before the committee.
According to the Chairman, the Security Minister only came to submit his statement concerning the subject matter to the committee.
On the other hand, the Inspector General of Police, George Akuffo Dampare, who was supposed to be present at the sitting, could not make it as he had to attend a national assignment.
Also present at Wednesday’s sitting were Chief Bugri Naabu, COP George Alex Mensah, Superintendent Asare, and Inspector Gyebi, together with their lawyers.
Commenting on the timelines given to the committee to complete its hearing, Mr. Atta Akyea said his committee was tasked with submitting its findings in the first week of parliament’s resumption but added that, looking at the scope of work that needs to be done, if an extension is needed, he will do so.
“The committee needs to do a good job so if we need more time, we will gladly request more time”.
Mr. Atta Akyea also added that the public is allowed to submit any evidence they might have which will be beneficial to the case at hand.
