Inspector-General orders probe as police deny alleged raid on NPP Bono East chairman’s house
The Inspector-General of Police (IGP) has ordered a full-scale investigation into allegations of a police raid on the residence of Mr. Ibrahim Baba Bukari, the Bono East Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), in Techiman.
This comes after media reports claimed that officers from the Ghana Police Service had stormed the politician’s home, leading to the death of one individual. However, in an official statement, the Ghana Police Service has strongly refuted the claim, describing it as false and misleading.
According to the police, no raid was carried out at Mr. Bukari’s residence. Preliminary investigations indicate that around 1:00 a.m. on Friday, August 1, 2025, officers from the Regional Police Intelligence Directorate (PID) acted on credible information concerning an ongoing robbery in the Techiman area.
During the operation, officers encountered several suspects attempting to scale a wall. One of the suspects was shot after allegedly trying to flee and later died at the hospital.
He has since been identified as a known member of a criminal gang responsible for a series of motorbike thefts and armed robberies in Techiman and surrounding communities.
The gang is believed to have returned to the area for yet another operation when they were intercepted by the police. A motorbike and other tools believed to have been used in their activities were retrieved at the scene. A targeted manhunt has been launched for the remaining gang members who fled during the police intervention.
Further checks have confirmed that the premises where the incident occurred belongs to Mr. Bukari.
However, the police insist the operation was not politically motivated and had no connection to his status as a party executive.
In response to the development, the IGP has dispatched a team of investigators from the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Headquarters, the Police Intelligence Directorate, and the Police Professional Standards Bureau to independently examine the circumstances surrounding the incident and address any emerging concerns.
The Ghana Police Service reaffirmed its commitment to professionalism, rule of law, and public safety, urging the public to await the outcome of the investigation before drawing conclusions.
