The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has directed the immediate release of Nana Adwoa Gyemfua, the Queenmother of Kwahu, following a controversial police operation at the Abene Palace early Monday morning, November 17.

In addition, the IGP has instructed the Police Professional Standards Bureau to investigate the circumstances surrounding the operation and ensure that any officer found culpable is appropriately sanctioned.

The Palace of the Paramount Chief of the Kwahu Traditional Council in Abene was reportedly raided around 4 a.m. by armed men dressed in police uniforms claiming affiliation with the National Security. Residents reported hearing gunshots inside the palace before the alleged abduction of the Queenmother, who was present at the time.

Security has since been heightened in and around Kwahu to safeguard residents and visitors following the incident.

In a related development, Kwahuhene Daasebre Akuamoah Boateng III was reportedly arrested during the dawn raid. Sources indicate the operation was executed by officers from Police Headquarters, and gunfire was exchanged during the incident.

Both the Nkawkaw and Kwahu Divisional Police Commands have stated they had no prior knowledge of the operation, raising serious questions about coordination, oversight, and command within the force.

Authorities have assured the public that the investigation will determine responsibility and prevent a recurrence of such operations.
