Former President, John Dramani Mahama, has pledged to ensure that various institutions in the country perform their functions without political interference when he gets the opportunity to lead Ghana again.

According to him, government institutions such as the the Judiciary, the electoral commission, and other independent constitutional bodies need to do their work without politicization.

In a post of X (formerly Twitter), he noted that this will be done through a constitutional review.

“I will curtail the excessive politicization of our institutions—the Judiciary, the electoral commission, and other independent constitutional bodies—through major constitutional reforms,” he wrote.

He also noted that his government will cut down on the size of government to reduce the stress on the country’s coffers.

“We will also rein in the phenomenon of bloated government and replace it with a much leaner one. Attendant governance costs, like payment of utility bills, fuel, and ex-gratia payments, will be cancelled.”
