President Nana Akufo-Addo, has categorically stated that he will do everything possible to help the newly elected flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to break the 8year jinx in the 2024 polls.

According to him, NPP can’t entrust the economy of Ghana into the hands of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) under the watch of former president John Dramani Mahama now the presidential candidate of the party.

“Ghana cannot afford the return of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) especially under the leadership of former President John Dramani Mahama”, Akufo-Addo said this during the party’s official announcement of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has the duly elected flagbearer.

President Akufo Addo in his profound congratulatory message expressed tremendous confidence in Dr. Bawumia, noting that Dr. Bawumia has the political experience to unite the rank and file of the NPP to ‘Break the 8’ in 2024.

“I am passing on the flagbearer role of our party after you have honoured me to lead this party, and you have allowed me to serve this great party. I cannot forget. I have done my best, but I am still left with one thing to do, and that is to help elect Bawumia as president. So let us pull together to ensure John Mahama does not return to power.”

“I am confident Bawumia will be able to unite this party, with the help of the other three contestants, to inflict a successful defeat on Mahama”.

Dr. Bawumia whipped Kennedy Agyapong, Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto and Francis Addai-Nimoh on Saturday November 4 to become the presidential candidate for NPP ahead of the 2024 elections.

Dr. Bawumia secured 118,210 votes representing 61.47% while his political rival Kennedy Agyapong polled 71,996 votes representing 37.41%.

Dr. Afriyie Akoto who placed third had 1,459 votes representing 0.76% while Addai-Nimoh garnered a meagre 731 representing 0.41% respectively.
