Goalkeeper of Kumasi Asante Kotoko, Frederick Asare has expressed happiness following his inclusion in Otto Addo’s 26-man Black Stars squad ahead of the team’s two June World Cup qualifying matches against Mali and Central Africa Republic.
Coach Otto Addo announced the squad in a press conference on Wednesday, May 29, 2024 at the headquarters of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) in Accra.
With Frederick being the only goalkeeper from the local scene making the squad, he said it is a dream come true for him.
“Not only in Ghana, but also around the world. Even in Europe, Asia, Africa and even in Ghana here, there are good goalkeepers but for me to be called to the national team by coach is a complement and great achievement for me and I am truly happy for me to represent my country. It’s a dream come true. Going forward, I think that I will also have to do my best and repay the coach’s trust in me.”
The Asante Kotoko shot stopper also showered praises on Coach Otto Addo, stating that he has in a short spell learnt a lot from him.
“For me, Otto Addo is one of the top coaches. Very calm, humble and always stick to his plan. Working with him is a great thing for me. I’ve learnt a lot. He’s a ball playing coach who always likes to play from the back with the goalkeeper so having him as your coach gives you that confidence even upon several mistakes and all that he still tries to encourage you to always do your best,” he told Kotoko media.
His inclusion is the second time he has been called to the Black Stars with the first during Ghana’s two international friendlies against Nigeria and Uganda.
