According to JoyNews’ Regional Correspondent, Rafiq Salam, the disturbances, which began late last night and continued into the early hours of sunday, saw the youth burning car tyres, destroying the Immigration Service office in the area.

They also set ablaze a vehicle belonging to the Service.

The rampaging youth alleged that an immigration officer had aided gunmen from Burkina Faso to enter the country through the Hamile border.

They also accused the officer of wrongfully arresting a Burkinabe woman, domiciled in Ivory Coast due to the unrest in her country, and attempting to repatriate her.

According to accounts, the lady was reportedly bundled into one of two vehicles used by immigration officers while on her way to Nandom to visit a relative.

Security in the area has since been heightened as tensions remain high.
