The Majority Leader, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, has announced that four independent Members of Parliament have expressed their intent to align and conduct business with the Majority Caucus in Parliament.
This development was disclosed during a parliamentary session on Wednesday, January 8, 2025.
Dr. Forson confirmed that all four MPs have communicated their intentions, with Kwame Asare Obeng, the Member of Parliament for Gomoa Central, being the only one to have officially submitted his decision in writing to the Majority Caucus.
The remaining three MPs, Ohene Kwame Frimpong (Asante Akim North), Nandaya Yaw Stanley (Wulensi), and Worlasi Kpeli (Afram Plains North) have been instructed to formalize their decisions by notifying the Majority Caucus and the Speaker of Parliament in writing for official validation.
“Currently, we have received letters from all four of them. So, Mr. Speaker, we’ll wait for them to officially write to you,” Dr. Forson stated.
“Mr. Speaker, my attention [has been drawn to the fact] that so far, the MP for Gomoa Central has written to us, but the rest are yet to write officially to confirm their positions.”
The announcement signifies a potential shift in the dynamics of parliamentary business, as the Majority Caucus could gain additional support through this collaboration with the independent MPs.
Further updates are expected once the formal communications from the MPs are submitted and validated by the Speaker of Parliament.
