The Ghana Statistical Service disclosed on Wednesday, September 13, 2023, that Ghana’s year-on-year inflation rate recorded 40.1 per cent for August 2023 relative to July 2023 at a rate of 43.1 per cent.
The month-on-month inflation rate between July 2023 and August 2023 was -0.2 per cent.
The Government Statistician, Professor Samuel Kobina Annim who made this known said that in August 2023, the general price level was 40.1% higher than in the same period in 2022.
Food inflation has dropped to 51.9 per cent with 55.0 per cent for July 2023. The month-on-month food inflation was -0.3%.
Inflation for locally produced items was 42.4 per cent while that for imported items was 36.2 per cent.
The Government Statistician also disclosed that the non-food inflation was 30.9 per cent with 33.8 per cent for July 2023. The month-on-month non-food inflation was -0.2 per cent.
With the disaggregation of August 2023 Year-on- year inflation by division personal care, social protection and miscellaneous goods and services recorded the highest rate 56.3% with month-on-month inflation of -0.1% followed by furnishings, household equipment and routine household maintenance with 52.6%, and it’s month -on- month rate of -0.2%.
Restaurants and accommodation services recorded the least rate of 7.6% with a month-on-month rate of 1.1%.
The North East Region recorded the highest inflation of 60.1% with the Greater Accra recording the lowest regional inflation of 31.8%.
