The Minister for Information, Fatimatu Abubakar has submitted the 2023 annual report on the implementation of the Right to Information (RTI) Act 2019, Act 989 to Parliament on Friday, June 28, 2024.
The report highlights the gains made, progress, and challenges with the implementation so far.
Commenting on the report, legislators from both sides of the house were full of commendations for the Minister for complying with the parliamentary obligation.
Since its implementation, the RTI law has empowered citizens’ participation in governance and promoted transparency and accountability in governance.
The primary goal of the Right to Information Act is to empower citizens, promote openness and accountability in government operations, combat corruption, and make our democracy truly function for the people.
The National Information Technology Agency recognizes the importance of the RTI law to foster a culture of transparency and accountability in public affairs particularly in a democratic society like Ghana.
