The Minister for Interior, Hon. Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka has disclosed that the National Security is collaborating with the United States Embassy to confirm the authenticity of the suspected counterfeit currencies.

 

The Interior Minister also noted that there is a collaboration with the Bank of Ghana and the Ghana Gold Board to confirm the authenticity of the intercepted gold bars and Ghana cedis.

 

He said this when he appeared before the House to answer questions relating to his Ministry. The Member of Parliament for Suhum, Hon. Frank Asiedu Bekoe wanted to know the state of the interception of an alleged massive haul of counterfeit US dollars, Ghanaian cedi notes and suspected gold bars hidden in 20-feet containers at a warehouse in Sapeiman on 9th March,2025.

 

Explaining further, the Minister said security operatives, acting on intelligence, successfully intercepted the counterfeit US dollars and fraudulent gold bars stored in a shipping container located in the Sapeiman area.

 

He added that following the established security protocols, the exhibits were securely protected. He indicated that in the interest of accountability, the media as an important partner in this effort-was invited to cover the story for reporting purposes.

Hon. Muntaka stated that investigations are ongoing to identify the suspects and their agents, and the extent of their operations.
