Minister for the Interior, Hon. Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, has reiterated the importance of a united front in promoting a culture of safety across Ghana.
He made the remarks at the 2025 National Safety Awards held in Accra and organised by the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS).
Addressing participants at the ceremony, Hon. Muntaka stressed that safeguarding lives and property should not be left solely to emergency services. Instead, he called for broad collaboration involving individuals, institutions, and communities to embed safety into the national conscience.
He lauded the GNFS for its continued dedication to fire prevention, emergency preparedness, and public education.
According to the Minister, the Service’s expanding reach through safety audits and inspections has not only enhanced compliance but has also contributed to national development by minimizing fire-related losses.
Hon. Muntaka further urged citizens, civil society groups, corporate organisations, and the media to champion fire safety in their respective spheres.
He described safety as a shared responsibility that demands daily commitment and encouraged young people to view it as a positive and empowering value.
As part of the event, the Minister was presented with a citation and a plaque in recognition of his support and advocacy for the Fire Service.
He also took the opportunity to applaud the award winners, describing them as role models in the country’s growing safety movement.

Acting Chief Fire Officer Daniella Mawusi Ntow-Sapong also addressed the gathering, describing the awards as a platform to spotlight those who prioritize safety in their work and communities.
She noted that the honorees demonstrate how safety can be woven into everyday activities and become a defining part of Ghanaian culture.
She reiterated the Service’s commitment to its core mission and called for continued collaboration from all sectors to enhance the protection of lives and property nationwide.
