The Acting Comptroller-General of the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS), Samuel Amadu Basintale, has reaffirmed the Service’s dedication to professionalism and national service, describing its newly commissioned Centre of Excellence as a milestone achievement in capacity building and border security management.
Mr. Basintale made the remarks during the official commissioning of the Centre and new residential accommodation for officers by the Minister for the Interior, Hon. Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, in Accra.
He expressed appreciation to the Minister for his unwavering support, stating that the development represents a significant step toward addressing the longstanding accommodation challenges faced by GIS personnel.
The Centre of Excellence is envisioned as a hub for continuous professional development, offering post-entry training and enhancing officers’ capabilities in handling migration and national security matters. The residential complex includes 84 housing units—comprising both two- and three-bedroom apartments—aimed at improving the welfare of GIS officers and boosting morale.
In his address, Minister Muntaka lauded the GIS for its commitment and hard work, acknowledging the crucial role the Service plays in safeguarding Ghana’s borders.
He noted that enhanced infrastructure and logistics are essential for efficient operations and reiterated the Ministry’s resolve to support the Service through improved resource allocation.
He further emphasised the importance of regular maintenance, urging the GIS leadership to implement a structured maintenance plan to preserve the integrity of the facility and set a standard for institutional care.
The Minister also assured officers that the government remains committed to improving office and residential facilities for all security agencies as part of its broader national security agenda.
