The Minister for the Interior and National Security, Muntaka Mohammed Mubarak, has inaugurated the Eastern Regional Command of the National Signals Bureau (NSB) in Koforidua, marking a major step toward strengthening Ghana’s security and intelligence framework.
The new facility, fitted with advanced surveillance and communication technology, is expected to enhance intelligence gathering and support the government’s 24-hour economy policy through improved monitoring and response mechanisms across the region.
Delivering his keynote address, Muntaka highlighted that the establishment of the command reflects government’s determination to leverage technology in addressing evolving security threats and maintaining national stability.
“This facility empowers us to lawfully intercept and analyse digital communications, helping to prevent crimes such as kidnapping, fraud, and armed robbery before they occur,” he stated.
He noted that the command will boost coordination between the NSB, Ghana Police Service, and the Ghana Armed Forces, ensuring real-time data sharing and quicker operational responses to threats.
The Eastern Regional Minister, Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey, described the commissioning as a timely intervention for a region grappling with issues such as illegal mining, drug-related offences, and robbery.
She reaffirmed the region’s commitment to supporting the Bureau’s work to sustain peace and safety.
National Security Coordinator COP Abdul-Osman Razak, urged NSB personnel to uphold professionalism and integrity, stressing that safeguarding the country requires collaboration across all sectors.
The commissioning forms part of the government’s broader strategy to modernise national security infrastructure and strengthen surveillance and intelligence capabilities nationwide.
