Interior Minister inaugurates Police Professional Standards Bureau Headquarters

The Minister for the Interior, Mr. Ambrose Dery has inaugurated an ultra-modern two-storey and fully furnished building for the Police Professional Standards Bureau (PPSB), built by Tobinco Group at the Nima police divisional Headquarters-Accra.

The Minister for the Interior, who read a speech on behalf of H.E. President Akufo-Addo, commended the Tobinco Group for the kind gesture to support the new strategic direction of the PPSB.

He said Public-Private partnerships of that nature must be encouraged for the good of the country and the benefit to the people of Ghana.

Mr. Ambrose Dery said there is the need to deploy an internal mechanism to ensure that the police personnel live up to the expectations of Ghanaians in respect of professionalism and ethical conduct.

He urged the Ghana Police administration to make the PPSB more proactive in ensuring professional standards within the Service.

He added that a reactive response could reduce the instance of personnel misconduct and prevent instances of unprofessionalism.

He said Government will continue to resource the Police Service to effectively discharge its law enforcement mandate so that the service can become a world-class institution.

The Minister urged all Police personnel to remain professional in the discharge of their duties to the nation to gain public confidence.

The Inspector-General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, commended the Government for its continued efforts at ensuring that the Ghana Police Service perform its duties well. He assured the good people of Ghana that Government will continue to do its best to ensure peace and security in the country.

The Inspector-General of Police also thanked Tobinco Group for the construction and handing over of the facility to the Ghana Police Service to augment their accommodation challenge. He said the service will always welcome any kind gesture to help the Service to maintain peace and security in the country.

On his part, the Executive Chairman of Tobinco Group, Elder Nana Amo Tobbin I, noted that the core mandate of the PPSB is to ensure that officers maintain professional standards at all times and therefore there is the need to provide the best form of support including logistics to the Ghana Police Service.

The Executive Chairman expressed the hope that the edifice will help instill a sense of professionalism in the officers to help the Ghana Police Service pursue its vision of maintaining Law, Peace and Order in the country.
