The Ministry of the Interior has unveiled plans to transition all its permit and licence-related services to a fully digital platform by the end of 2025, in a sweeping effort to modernise operations and eliminate bureaucratic delays.
Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, made the announcement at a Meet the Press engagement in Accra on Monday, July 14.
He explained that the digitalisation agenda is designed to improve transparency, streamline administrative processes, and make public services more accessible and efficient.
The Ministry has already completed process mapping for 16 of its core service areas. These include the issuance of immigrant quota permits, dual citizenship documentation, private security organisation licences, and the regulation of arms and ammunition imports.
“When fully implemented, the digital system will drastically reduce processing times, improve service quality, and curb the frustrations associated with manual applications,” the Minister said.
He acknowledged that the current manual processing of applications has created avoidable delays, with applicants often facing extended waiting periods due to paperwork errors and limited tracking mechanisms.
The upcoming digital platform, he noted, will allow applicants to file and track their requests online, thereby fostering greater accountability.
This digital shift is part of the government’s broader public sector transformation drive, which seeks to leverage technology to enhance governance, reduce corruption risks, and ensure timely service delivery.
