The Ministry of the Interior has ordered a full-scale investigation following claims that the Special Prosecutor, Mr. Kissi Agyebeng, survived two assassination attempts while executing his duties.

The announcement comes after Sammy Darko, Director of Research, Communications, and Strategy at the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), made the allegations on Newsfile on Saturday, December 6, amid mounting public pressure on the OSP to deliver on its mandate.

Mr. Darko also alleged that he was handcuffed and assaulted by 17 police officers during the incidents.

In a statement, the Ministry described the claims as highly concerning, noting that verified threats against officials of accountability institutions pose a serious risk to national anti-corruption efforts, which the government has vowed to strengthen.

Preliminary discussions with Mr. Agyebeng suggest that the alleged assassination attempts occurred before 2025. However, officials indicate there is no record of any such threats being reported at police stations or state security agencies.

In response, the Minister for the Interior has issued two directives:

A comprehensive investigation into the alleged assassination attempts, underscoring that “crime does not expire.”

A separate inquiry into Mr. Darko’s claim that he was handcuffed and beaten by 17 police personnel.

“The Ministry of Interior reiterates its commitment to protecting all lives and property, ensuring that every Ghanaian can conduct lawful activities without fear for their safety,” the statement concluded.

The Ministry also pledged to keep the public informed of the investigations’ outcomes and any actions to be taken.
