The Minister for the Interior, Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka, has announced the rollout of a fully digital recruitment system for the country’s security services, fast-tracking the ministry’s shift from paper-based applications to a modern, paperless process.

The decision follows last week’s tragic incident at the El-Wak Sports Stadium, where six Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) applicants died and several others sustained injuries during a stampede.

Speaking at a media briefing, the Minister said the transition to a centralised e-recruitment portal is aimed at enhancing safety, eliminating overcrowding, and improving efficiency in the recruitment process.

“For the first time, applicants will be able to begin and complete the entire recruitment process from the comfort of their homes using their mobile phones via a USSD code, which will be published by Sunday, November 16,” he disclosed.

He added that both the USSD shortcode and the web address for the new portal will be publicly released on the same day.

According to Mr. Muntaka, the new platform will harmonise and standardise recruitment procedures across all security agencies under the Interior Ministry while ensuring transparency and ease of use for applicants.

“It offers real-time updates. You will be able to track your application, know when you are scheduled for screening, and receive notifications on medicals or subsequent stages—all directly on your phone,” he explained.

Addressing concerns about internet accessibility, the Minister noted that provisions have been made to accommodate applicants in areas with poor connectivity. Such applicants can obtain recruitment vouchers at any Ghana Commercial Bank (GCB) branch or Ghana Post office nationwide.

Mr. Muntaka described the portal as secure, efficient, and capable of handling a high volume of applications without technical challenges.

“The system is built to be seamless and user-friendly, even for individuals with limited IT skills. It will support multiple devices, including smartphones, tablets, and computers, allowing anyone across the country to apply with ease,” he assured.

The Interior Ministry says the move is part of its broader effort to improve the safety, credibility, and fairness of national security recruitment processes.
