The Ministry of Gender, Children, and Social Protection (MoGCSP) celebrated the 2024 International Day of the Girl Child on Friday, October 11, with an event at the Ministry’s conference room under the theme “Girls’ Vision for the Future.”

The celebration highlighted the dreams, aspirations, and challenges of girls globally, emphasizing the importance of empowering them to shape a brighter, more inclusive future.

The event brought together representatives from government agencies, international development partners, civil society organizations, and the media. Girls from various schools also participated, sharing their visions and aspirations for a better world.

In her keynote address, Hon. Dakoa Newman, Minister for Gender, Children, and Social Protection, stressed the need to invest in the future of girls, who make up a significant portion of the global population. She praised the resilience and courage of girls worldwide despite the challenges they face, urging collective action to protect their rights and promote their empowerment.

The event featured a range of activities, including school engagements, intergenerational dialogues, and a girls’ media takeover, offering platforms for girls to discuss critical issues such as gender equality, climate justice, and leadership.

The 2024 celebration in Ghana sought to amplify girls’ voices and inspire action to support their education, healthcare, and leadership development.
