A 28-year-old mason, Michael Saaba, has been sentenced to 6 months imprisonment for stealing an iPhone 13 pro max.
Appearing before the Kaneshie District Court, Saaba pleaded guilty.
According to reports, a relative known as Naana Kweti Adilla had given her iPhone to the accused to withdraw GH₵1,000 from her Momo wallet at a vendor nearby.
Saaba however escaped with the phone and managed to withdraw an amount of GH₵ 1,800 from the Momo wallet.
The court presided over by Ms Ama Adomako Kwakye convicted Saaba on his own plea and sentenced him accordingly.
Narrating the incident, Chief Inspector Florence Nartey said the complainant was a trader and Saaba, her nephew.
The prosecution said on September 27, 2022, the complainant gave her iphone13 pro max to Saaba to withdraw GHS1,000 from her mobile money account at a nearby vendor.
The prosecution added that Saaba after taking the phone from the complainant, “vanished into thin air”.
On September 28, this year the complainant detected that the remaining GH₵800 in her Momo wallet had also been withdrawn.
The prosecution said a report was made to the Police and on October 26, 2022, Saaba’s cousin known as Amina spotted him at Ashaiman and alerted the police for his arrest.
Saaba admitted his offense in a caution statement.
The prosecution said Saaba indicated that his friends helped him to withdraw all the money from the complainant’s mobile money account.
