Daniel Asiedu, also known as Sexy Dondon, the prime suspect in the murder of Abuakwa North MP J.B. Danquah Adu, broke down in tears in court on Wednesday, expressing frustration over the lengthy trial process.
Asiedu, who has been in legal limbo for nine years, lamented that Ghana’s court system was unfair and maintained his innocence.
His emotional outburst momentarily disrupted proceedings, prompting the court to intervene and calm him down before the session could continue.
Appearing before the Criminal Court Five division of the High Court, presided over by Justice Kizita Naa Koowa Quarshie, the trial judge noted that Asiedu’s legal team had previously indicated plans to file for bail.
However, Sophia Armstrong, who held brief for the defense, confirmed that the application was yet to be submitted.
The prosecution, represented by Ms. Yvonne Yaache-Adomako on behalf of Principal State Attorney Sefakor Batse, stated that they were prepared to proceed with the trial once a jury was empaneled.
On December 4, 2024, the High Court ordered a retrial after a seven-member jury delivered a 4-3 verdict on the charges of robbery and murder, failing to reach a unanimous decision.
The court adjourned the case to February 25, 2025.
