JICA donates ambulances, equipment to Ministry of Health

The Ministry of Health (MoH) has received some medical equipment and ambulances from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

The Ministry of Health (MoH) has received some medical equipment and ambulances from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

The donation which was done on Thursday February 8, 2024 in Accra saw JICA pledge continuous support to the government of Ghana through the Ministry of Health.

According to the chief representative of JICA, Miss Momoko Suzuki the great partnership between JICA and the ministry has evolved over the last 60 years and has manifested in many impactful interventions with footprints across the country.

She noted that, lessons from the COVID-19 pandemic as well as the outbreak of the monkey pox and the marburg virus in Ghana have highlighted that a well managed vaccine system is a key ingredient for the development of the resilient public health system position to mitigate the threat of any infectious disease on lives and livelihoods and distortion on critical health service.

With various progress the country has made over the years, the Ghana demographic and health survey 2022 highlights that about 75% of children between the ages of 12 to 23 have been fully vaccinated and this according to JICA is a massive progress the country has made.

“The government of Japan through JICA will continue to support the efforts of the Ministry of Health to provide routine immunization to reach the tens of thousand of children and their mothers”, Miss Suzuki said.

JICA therefore presented equipment including sixteen (16) vaccine refrigerator truck and a walking cold room with generator to supports the ministry’s efforts.

On his part, the minister responsible for health, Kwaku Agyeman Manu said, the country is elated that once again our engagement and diplomatic relations with the Japanese government through the Japanese grant assistance has helped the country in various aspects during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“The government of Ghana is appreciative of this gesture again by the government of Japan and we are assured that this will contribute towards improvement in the health sector”, the minister said.

He therefore pledged to efficiently utilize the resources to achieve the country’s health goals.

Some of the donated items include one Unit CT scanner machine, Six (6) unit of direct digital X-Ray machines, Two (2) units of water tankers, six (6) units of ambulances and twenty-one (21) units of thermal cameras.
