Former President John Dramani Mahama has condemned acts of violence perpetrated against National Democratic Congress (NDC) supporters by military personnel during the December 7 elections.
The incidents, which occurred in Nyankpala and Kasoa, left two people dead and two others injured. In Nyankpala, a party supporter was fatally shot by a soldier.
Similarly, in Kasoa within the Awutu Senya East constituency, another individual was killed, and two others sustained injuries during the voting process.
Reacting to these developments, Mr. Mahama took to social media to express his dissatisfaction and issue a stern warning.
“My attention has been drawn to the violent activities of some unscrupulous military personnel deployed to cause mayhem and disrupt the declaration of parliamentary results in some constituencies,” he wrote.
The former president cautioned those involved, emphasizing they would be held personally accountable for their actions.
“This is to caution the personnel involved that they will be held individually liable and responsible for their actions,” his statement read.
The violence during the elections has drawn widespread condemnation, with many calling for thorough investigations to bring perpetrators to justice.
Mahama’s comments signal his party’s resolve to seek accountability and justice for the victims of these tragic incidents.
