Journalists and scores of Students of Krobo Nursing Training College have been arrested during demonstration against school’s Principal
The Students of Krobo Nursing Training College in the Techiman North District of Bono East Region numbering about 700 staged a peaceful demonstration against the school administration on Monday.
According to the aggrieved students; feeding, sanitation, accommodation, water, security and every condition at the school under Mrs. Helen Dwamena as Principal has deteriorated and therefore she must be changed as soon as possible.
They have boycotted classes from today and have threatened not to return for lectures until the Principal who has touted herself as highly connected and untouchable is changed.
The peaceful demonstration at some point got messy after some Police personnel upon reaching the scene gave warning shots and subsequently arrested some students and two journalists.
Some students who spoke to Peace News in an interview raised serious concerns about the falling academic standards as the Principal’s administration cannot guarantee them a brighter future therefore their appeal to the government to remove her with immediate effect.
Meanwhile, the Principal of Krobo Nursing Training College Mrs. Helen Dwamena is yet to comment on the action of the students as she had not reported to the office at the time of the demonstration.
The Ghana Police Service are yet to make an official statement on the arrests as it is speculated that the students had not permit to demonstrate therefore making their assembly an unlawful gathering.
Calm had been restored on the school campus at the time of filing this report but I’ll continue to monitor the situation to update my cherished readers.
