There was near eruption of pandemonium in Juaben after assembly members in the Juaben Municipality of the Ashanti region rejected the President’s nominee for the second time on Monday November 1.
Angry residents threatened to assault the assembly members for failing to get them a Municipal Chief.
But for the intervention of the police some casualty would have been recorded, Ibrahim added.
The nominee is captured on tape demanding monies he allegedly paid to the assembly members to motivate them to vote for him.
Some angry residents of Juaben in the Ashanti Region, have threatened to attack some assembly members after they rejected the Metropolitan Chief Executive nominee for the area.
The residents massed up at the confirmation venue after the nominee, Alex Sarfo Kantanka, was voted against by 15 of the 26 assembly members.
The Ashanti Regional Minister and the nominee have been whisked away to the chief’s palace after the confirmation process.
Police have stepped in to calm tensions and protect the assembly members.
This confirmation has been plagued with controversy, with 20 assembly members boycotting the process the last time around over what they described as intimidation because of the heavy security presence.
Assemblyman for Nobowam electoral area, Emmanuel Gallo, has disclosed that assembly members of the Juaben Municipal Assembly feel compelled to approve the President’s Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) nominee, Alex Sarfo Kantanka.
“It is elections involving 26 people, and you have two armour cars with policemen and soldiers, you will not feel secure or happy.
“Now, we think we feel pressured [to confirm Mr Kantaka] because if not, we will not be having this heavy security detail at the venue,” he said on Monday.
In a related Development, Mr Prosper Patu, the re-nominated nominee for the position of a District Chief Executive (DCE) for Akatsi North District in the Volta region, has been rejected for the second time by Assembly members.
Out of the total number of 18 members present, he polled 7 Yes votes and 11 against, representing 38 per cent in a second voting held at the District Assembly’s hall on Monday, October 25.
The result meant Mr Patu, a teacher by profession failed to get two-thirds majority to be confirmed as DCE for Akatsi North.
Mr Ali Bukari, President’s nominee for the District Chief Executive (DCE) position for the Wa West District has been rejected the second time.
Mr Bukari was re-nominated by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo after he was rejected outright by the Assembly Members on October 6, 2021.
Three Municipal and District Chief Executives (MDCEs) who were unsuccessful in their confirmation polls, have been re-nominated by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
They are Mr Prosper Kofi Patu, re-nominated for Akatsi South, Mr Phanuel Donkor Kadey, Adaklu District, and Mr Anthony Komla Avorgbedor, Ketu North Municipal.
