Bernard Antwi Boasiako, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), widely known as Chairman Wontumi, has officially declared his bid for the party’s National Chairman position.

He emphasized that his leadership experience and proven track record are far more important than his command of English.

Speaking to party supporters in the Western Region ahead of the NPP’s national executive elections in September 2026, Wontumi dismissed the idea that language proficiency should determine leadership potential.

The outspoken party stalwart highlighted his decades of experience, grassroots engagement, and strategic planning as key qualifications for guiding the party toward future electoral victories.

He urged members to focus on practical leadership skills and measurable results rather than superficial markers such as language fluency.

“Don’t judge me by my English. Judge me by my competence. Judge me by what I have done and what I can do. Assess me by the strategies I can implement to win the 2028 elections. When I campaign in the markets, it is not English I speak; market women understand the message, not the language,” he said.

The NPP has already begun preparations for internal reorganisation, with member registration scheduled from March 1 to 31, ahead of the national executive elections.
