The Chairman of the Kabaka Foundation, Nana Owiredu Wadie l, has cut sod for the construction of Gh¢1.9 million intensive care unit for Eastern Regional Hospital in Koforidua.

The Kabaka Foundation is seeking to expand its impact on communities by focusing on seven main areas, namely Health; Education; Social Interventions; Economic Empowerment; Environment, Water and Sanitation; Disability Rehabilitation and Development; as well as Community Infrastructure Development all over Ghana.

In September 2021, during the commissioning of the Kabaka Foundation refurbished NICU and Prenatal Wards at the Eastern Regional Hospital Koforidua, on the birthday of the Chairman, the nursing mothers who have their babies on admission at the NICU, together with the Nurses and Doctors made a plea to Nana Owiredu Wadie I to build a bigger facility for the NICU and also provide a bigger and better hostel to accommodate the nursing mothers.

On the 19th October 2021, the Medical Director of the Hospital officially requested, via a letter to the Foundation, seeking the support of Kabaka Foundation to help construct their hospital a new multipurpose NICU complex which will have Children’s OPD, NICU Treatment Wards and NICU Babies Mothers Hostel.

During the sod cutting ceremony, the Chairman, Nana Owiredu Wadie said, he gave the approval of the construction of the facility in December last year.

“As the Chairman of Kabaka Foundation, I approved the request and mobilized to the construction site in December 2021”.

“Today, January 31, 2022, I am here to officially cut the sod for construction and I pledge to handover this project with the support of God on my birthday 28th September 2022”.

The project is expected to be completed in eight months from now. This health infrastructure when completed shall be known as the Nana Owiredu Wadie I, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) Complex at the Eastern Regional Hospital Koforidua.

The mother’s lodge in the complex will facilitate concurrent breastfeeding whilst preventing infections and their transmission among babies at the NICU.

“This complex which is a referral center will receive cases from all health facilities in the Eastern Region including cases from Kwahu-Nkwatia where I am the Nkosouhene”, he said.
