Karim Benzema has announced his retirement from international football, less than 24 hours after Argentina beat France to win the 2022 World Cup.
The 35-year-old missed out on the World Cup tournament after sustaining an injury just before the start of the tournament.
Benzema has been a very important player for the French side, since making his international debut in 2007, and
has made 97 appearances for France, with 37 goals to his name.
His retirement comes after France painfully lost to Argentina on penalties in the finals of the 2022 World Cup.
In an Instagram post on Monday, he wrote “‘I made the effort and the mistakes it took to be where I am today and I’m proud of it! I have written my story and ours is ending.”
